With every participant a chance to save more children is growing
The Chestnut Run Charitable Foundation purchases necessary equipment and surgical supplies for the Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Children’s Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of MoH of Ukraine.
Thanks to the Race’s participants, the first device for membrane oxygenation, also called an “artificial heart” was purchased for the Center in 2010, and in 2013 – the third in Ukraine CS300 counterpulsation device (the device supports the blood pressure of young patients during the surgery), as well as other equipment, surgical supplies and even new heating infrastructure.
Awareness about the problem
The Run annually reminds media and the community about the kids with cardiac conditions and raises awareness about the treatment options, affecting major media and millions of Ukrainians
Despite the fact that only 40% of Ukrainian children with cardiac condition can be treated on time, the number of lives saved increased over the years. A mortality rate during surgery decreased from 12.9% in 2000 to 0.8% in 2014. Now 16 times more children are being saved annually!
